A downloadable game for Windows
Orphield - A Puzzle-Platformer Horror Adventure
Orphield is a 2.5D puzzle-platformer horror adventure set in a quiet, post-apocalyptic world. Drawing inspiration from games like Little Nightmares, Inside, and Limbo, it follows a creature with sharp hearing navigating a silent landscape caused by a mysterious entity. Your goal is to solve puzzles and restore sound while facing the force behind the silence.
A Quiet, Haunting World
In Orphield, you play as a creature in a desolate, eerie setting. The 2.5D environments mix gritty ruins with surreal visuals, creating a moody backdrop. Each level offers platforming challenges and puzzles that test your problem-solving skills. The game’s story and atmosphere aim to draw you into a world where silence shapes every step.
The project came from a collaboration across Film, Engineering, Music, and Design, blending visuals, sound, and storytelling. While the game has its moments, it faced challenges in polish and pacing, so expect a raw experience with some rough edges.
Gameplay and Mechanics
Orphield combines puzzle-solving with platforming across five levels. You’ll jump, climb, and interact with the environment to progress, solving puzzles that involve logic and timing. The creature’s hearing plays a role, with sound effects tied to your actions, though the execution can feel uneven at times. The game tries to balance challenge and immersion, but some puzzles and mechanics may not always hit the mark.
Why Play Orphield?
- Horror Atmosphere: A silent world with creepy visuals and a tense vibe.
- Puzzles and Platforming: A mix of brain-teasers and movement challenges.
- Unique Sound Design: Audio that shifts with your actions, though not always consistent.
- Team Effort: A project built by a diverse team across multiple disciplines.
Challenges Faced
The team worked hard, but balancing puzzle difficulty and project scope was tough. Issues with asset integration and limited playtesting left some rough spots, impacting the game’s flow and polish. It’s a learning experience we hope to build on in future projects.
